The KAHTEA conference committee welcomes academics, industry professionals, government agencies, and graduate and undergraduate students who would like to share their knowledge, business know-how, and valuable experiences. Conference attendees will share their expertise through completed research, research-in-progress, case studies, and/or open discussion in stand-up presentation, poster presentation, or symposium format.


[+] Keynote Speakers (To be announced shortly)

We will have three keynote speakers, including a world-class scholar, a Korea tourism policy-maker from Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), and a famous hospitality entrepreneur. They will discuss entrepreneurship, business analytics in hospitality & tourism, and Korea national tourism strategies. More details will be announced shortly.


[+] Best Paper Awards

Four best papers will be selected and awarded by the best-paper selection committee based on the topic relevance and contribution of research to existing knowledge (30 points), sound methodology and statistical analysis (30 points), structure and clarity of writing (20 points), and conclusions and implication (20 points).

  • The first-place winner in research stand-up presentations: Founding President Award + a Plaque
  • The second-place winner in research stand-up presentations: US $300 + a Plaque
  • The first-place winner in undergraduate presentations (USRF): Scholarship + a Plaque
  • The second-place winner in undergraduate presentations (USRF): Scholarship + a Plaque
  • The AGHTJ Award: US $500 + a Plaque

1. Refereed research presentations

Extended abstracts will go through a double-blind review process. Research presentations should be based on either theoretical or empirical studies that demonstrate sound research question, research methodology, and implications. Stand-up presentations should be 25 minutes long plus 5-minute question & answer.

2. Undergraduate Student Research Forum (USRF)

The Undergraduate Student Research Forum (USRF) is designed to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to present their research proposals and/or case studies (only stand-up presentation). Extended abstracts will go through a double-blind review process. Presentations will be 20-30 minutes long. The faculty advisor must be a member of the KAHTEA.


[+] Extended Abstracts Submission Guideline

(both refereed research presentation and USRF)

  • English is an official language. Abstracts will be accepted in English only.
  • Extended abstracts should be submitted in MS Word (Times New Roman Font, size 12, and double-spaced) and should not exceed 2,000 words (not including references and tables).
  • Please find guidelines and a template to click Template 2016.
  • Note that extended abstracts will be reviewed only for the best paper selection and will NOT be included in the conference proceedings.
  • The conference proceedings include only one-page final abstract and will be distributed as a PDF file.
  • Please submit the extended abstracts to conference@kahtea.org.

3. Academy of Global Hospitality and Tourism Journal (AGHTJ) Award

The AGHTJ (Academy of Global Hospitality and Tourism Journal), sponsored by Korean Hospitality and Tourism Academe, invites conceptual, empirical, and methodological research papers. All submissions to the AGHTJ paper category must be original work not yet submitted to any other publication prior to the Conference. All submitted papers to this award category will follow a rigorous double-blind review process and will be accepted and only KATHEA conference formatting abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings. Jurors will select the author(s) as the best full-paper award winner, who comes with a cash prize of US$500 and a Plaque. Please note that papers that receive the award must be published in the special conference issue of the AGHTJ.

  • Extended abstracts: Monday, February 15, 2016 (by 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time, USA)
  • Notification of acceptance: Monday, February 29, 2016
  • Registration: Monday, March 28, 2016. At least one author should register the conference by this date.
  • One-page (single-spaced) final abstracts: Monday, April 4, 2016 (by 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time, USA)
