“Big Data and Business Analytics in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management”

at the 2023 Annual TTRA Apac Conference

We invite researchers and industry professionals to submit their contributions for a special session on “Big Data and Business Analytics in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management”. This session aims to present the current status quo on big data and business analytics research and explore new data-driven approaches for research, education, and practice in the context of tourism, hospitality, and event. We encourage creative and cutting-edge submissions that offer valuable insights, innovative theoretical and methodological research approaches, practical implications, and unique instructional techniques or educational programs for tourism, hospitality, and event big data and business analytics.

Suggested Topics for Submission:

1. Big data and business analytics:

• Big data analysis in the context of tourism, hospitality, and event management

• Empirical analysis using key performance indicators in the tourism, hospitality, and event industries

• Forecasting

• Theory, concepts, and methods for big data and business analytics

2. Spatial analytics:

• Spatial-temporal segmentation and behavior

• Spatial econometric models and methods

• Geosimulation

• Big data spatial analytics

• Applications of geospatial technologies (e.g., GIS, GPS, RS, LiDAR, drone, etc)

3. Machine learning based predictive modeling and artificial intelligence:

• Machine learning algorithms for predictive modeling

• Theory-driven predictive model development

• Novel theories and new research methods integrating machine learning with other approaches

• Generative artificial intelligence and its economic implications

4. Text mining – topic modeling, sentiment analysis:

• Text summarization, classification, clustering, and other techniques for structured and unstructured textual data

• Website, online communities, and social media analysis

• Methodological procedures and challenges for text mining

• LDA, LSA, NLP, and other techniques

5. Case Studies and Best Practices for education, industry, and government in tourism, hospitality, and event:

• Case studies in big data and business analytics education in academia, industry, and government

• Pedagogical approaches and program development of big data and business analytics in tourism, hospitality, and event

• Ethical and pedagogical issues using generative artificial intelligence (e.g, ChatGPT) in classrooms

Submission Guidelines:

Authors interested in presenting their research or industry insights in this special session are invited to submit extended abstracts (up to 750 words) or full papers (up to 5,000 words) to a corresponding chair, Dr. Minwoo Lee, at mlee37@central.uh.edu. Submissions should adhere to the guidelines provided by the conference and must clearly indicate that they are intended for the “Big Data and Business Analytics in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management” special session.
