As a proud board member of the Korea America Hospitality and Tourism Educators Association (KAHTEA), it is my pleasure to introduce a groundbreaking initiative that will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of our field. We are delighted to announce the launch of the KAHTEA Future Researcher Scholarship Program in 2024, a dynamic endeavor designed to support and empower deserving students dedicated to advancing hospitality and tourism research.


1. Program Purpose

The KAHTEA Future Researcher Scholarship program aims to be a beacon of opportunity for students pursuing research careers in hospitality, tourism, and related management programs. This initiative seeks not only to alleviate financial burdens but also to nurture the next generation of leaders in our industry. Specifically, the scholarship program is tailored for students who aspire to present their research at the THEREPS annual conference, fostering an environment where innovation and knowledge dissemination thrive.


2. Award Categories/ Prizes/ Recognition

A. Undergraduate Student Award

  • KAHTEA Pineapple Award – 2 recipients
    • Certificate + Cash prize of $250 each
    • Recognition at the 2024 THEREPS Award Ceremony on April 6th, 2024

B. Graduate Student Award

  • KAHTEA Excellent Service Award – 1 recipient
    • Certificate + Cash prize of $500
    • Recognition at the 2024 THEREPS Award Ceremony on April 6th, 2024

3. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a hospitality, tourism, or relevant management program.
  • Attend the THEREPS conference in person for their research presentation.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in both overall and major coursework.

4. Application Requirements

The scholarship selection committee will evaluate applications based on the following requirements:

  • One letter of recommendation from the academic advisor – Note that the recommendation letter content has to include the student’s overall and major GPAs.
  • Essay (refer to the attached form) by an Applicant

5. Evaluation & Recipient Award

The scholarship selection committee will meticulously assess applications, considering academic achievements, financial need, and the applicant’s commitment to academia and the hospitality and tourism. The deserving recipients will be announced at the 2024 THEREPS conference during the award ceremony on April 6th, 2024.
